Portugal are the second most likely team to be crowned Euro 2020 champions
Despite Portugal’s humbling defeat against Germany - and the fact that their place in the round of 16 is still far from guaranteed - world-renowned sports data analysts Opta have calculated that Portugal are still the second favourites to go all the way and lift the biggest prize the continent has to offer.
France remain the favourites to win Euro 2020, given a chance of 23.1% of going one better than they did 5 years ago on home turf - while Portugal are the side just behind them, deemed to have a 12.8% chance of matching their achievement of 2016. Germany are 3rd favourites at 12.1% - ensuring that the three most likely winners all, quite startlingly, come from the same group.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of them all, however, is that Denmark, who only just scraped into the round of 16 - having picked up no points in their opening 2 games - are the 5th favourites to go all the way, ahead of the likes of Italy, England and the Netherlands, at 8.2%.
Indeed, despite such an impressive group stage, Italy are only seen as the 6th favourites, given a 6.8% chance of winning the competition - while England, who many bookies make one of the standout favourites to lift the competition, are just deemed the 9th most likely to win the final in Wembley next month.

Opta’s data, to the relief of many Portuguese football fans, give Portugal a huge 94.1% chance of getting out of the group stage, and more than a 65% chance of then reaching the quarter-finals. That is despite Portugal only being given a 5.5% chance of finishing 1st in their group.
