Benfica complete the signing of Roman Yaremchuk
Benfica secure the signature of Roman Yaremchuk for a fee in the region of 15 million euros from Belgian outfit Gent.
The 25-year old had an impressive individual campaign in Belgium last season, scoring 20 goals in 34 outings in the Pro League, though Gent only managed to secure a 7th place finish in the table, missing out on European qualification as they also finished bottom of their 2020-21 Europa League group with zero points.
Gent’s struggles only make Yaremchuk’s goalscoring exploits in the campaign even more impressive, and to snap up the 29-time Ukrainian international for just 15 million euros represents good value for money from a Benfica standpoint.
Yaremchuk had a positive campaign for Ukraine at Euro 2020, starting all 5 of their matches at the tournament as they reach the quarter finals, where they were routinely dispatched of by England, with Yaremchuk scoring in the opening two games versus Netherlands and North Macedonia.
Standing at 6 foot 3, Yaremchuk offers a physical presence and a real focal point in the centre of attack, and will give another dimension to a Benfica side already boasting a wealth of attacking talent.
