Ivan Cavaleiro joins Fulham on a season-long loan

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Ivan Cavaleiro has officially signed for English Championship side Fulham.

Fulham, who were relegated from the English Premier League last season, have signed the Portuguese international on a season long loan, but will have the option to make the signing permanent for a fee believed to be in the region of 14 million euros.

The 25-year old originally joined Wolves back in 2016, costing the club a total of £7million, a then-club record fee.

He proved to be a great acquisition, impressing during his time at the club. In total, he played 106 matches across all competitions for the West Midlands club, scoring 19 and assisting 20 in that time.

Two outgoings, no incomings (yet)

Cavaleiro’s departure follows on from the sale of Helder Costa, who has joined fellow Championship side Leeds United on a loan deal that is guaranteed to become permanent next summer.

It sees Wolves lose two player who, although weren’t key players for the club last campaign, did play a rotation role at the side, and were instrumental for Wolves during their preceding two or three Championship years.

It sees Wolves’ squad, which was already lacking depth, reduce further, with two first-team players departing and no first-team arrivals yet to be announced.

It has been greeted with a little concern from some Wolves fans - though it does very much indicate that Wolves have some pretty assured replacements lined up - and you would expect a couple of new additions to be announced before the start of the Premier League season.

So far, Wolves’ transfer activity has been quiet, while their main targets have largely been kept under wraps, though you can be sure that replacements are already lined up.

It would be somewhat unthinkable that Wolves would let the Portuguese duo depart if they didn’t have a plan in place as, even though game time was hard to come by for both last season, the fact Wolves will be competing in the Europa League next season means that they will have far more matches to contend with for the upcoming campaign.
