Lucas João to sign for Reading
Portuguese international striker Lucas João is set to join English Championship outfit Reading FC.
The Sheffield Wednesday forward could end up costing, in total, a fee in the region of £7million, meaning that Wedesday will likely be making a profit on the 25-year old.
Joao arrived at Sheffield Wednesday back in 2015 when bought from Nacional by then-manager Carlos Carvalhal, and went on to make 129 appearances for the club across all competitions.
In total, he bagged 29 goals during his time at the English Championship side, averaging approximately one goal every 4 matches.
By moving to Reading, Joao is to link up with another Portuguese manager, this time Jose Gomes, who joined Reading from Rio Ave midway through last season.
Intriguingly, the versatile forward actually came off the bench to play against Reading last weekend in the first gameweek of the 2019-20 Championship campaign, and ended up scoring a delightful goal on the turn with a half-volley.
The former Nacional striker has played twice for the Portugal national team, both appearances coming in friendly outings under Fernando Santos back in November 2015.
He played 81 minutes of a 2-0 victory over Luxembourg, though failed to get on the scoresheet, and also took to the field in a 1-0 defeat to Russia. He also remained an unused substitute in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Cape Verde 4 and a half years ago.
