Sporting star youngster completes move to English Premier League
Teenage star Felix Correia has finally completed his move to the English Premier League.
The 18-year old star has been expected to complete a move to English soil since the start of July, and now Sporting have confirmed that one of their hottest prospects has made the move abroad.
Sporting had been keen to keep hold of the 18-year old when interest in Felix first came to light, and were looking to tie him down to a longer-term deal, but were unable to do so.
Instead, Correia, who has represented Portugal at all youth levels up to the U19s, is to leave the club for a fee in the region of 4 million euros. That sum can increase to about 15 million euros, though, should he fulfil certain objectives at his new club.
Correia will be switching Lisbon for Manchester, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City signing the Sporting academy graduate on a five year deal.
Correia, it can be remembered, was at the Toulon tournament earlier this summer, and scored Portugal’s third and final goal in a 3-2 victory over England, a well-taken volley thundered past the England shot-stopper.
He then took part in Portugal’s U19 European Championship, playing a significant role as Portugal reached the final of the continental tournament.
He was unable to inspire his side to reach the same heights as the generation before him though, with Portugal having won the U19 Euros in 2018.
His most memorable game in the tournament came in their first group stage match versus Italy, where the new Manchester City man got a very tidy assist to help put Portugal 2-0 up, before he showed strength, pace and composure to complete the rout in the 51st minute.
While he has impressed on the youth stage, Correia never actually made his Sporting debut for the senior team - though he does undoubtedly have a strong future ahead of him.
Benfica were also interested in bringing in the right-sided winger from their arch-rivals, but ultimately Manchester City won the race for his signature.
Manchester City are also closing in on the signing of Portugal international right back Joao Cancelo.
