Benfica release winger Zivkovic, now available on a free transfer
Benfica have released a video thanking Andrija Zivkovic after the Serbian international saw his contract with club terminated by mutual consent.
After spending four seasons at Benfica, in which he featured in a total of 88 matches, the Serbian fell out of favour at the club despite showing good promise towards the start of his time in the country, and only featured for the Lisbon club on four occasions last season, playing just over 120 minutes in total.
This lack of game time was also due to some injury issues though, and the 24-year old winger likely would have played more frequently for the Eagles had he been available.
Despite showing some glimpses of real quality, there have been suggestions that his attitude was the issue more than his lack of ability, and there is still a strong possibility that he can go on to have an excellent career at a very high level, much in the same was as Luca Jovic who was quickly sold by Benfica for far below his market value.
The diminutive right winger, who can also play on the opposite flank or through the middle, started his career at Partizan, and has represented his country on 17 occasions.
It remains to be seen where Zivkovic’s next venture will take him, though there should be plenty of interest in a player with considerable flair and endeavour when fully motivated and on top of his game, even more so now that he will be available for no fee at all.
