Porto recruit Santa Clara's Zaidu Sanusi
Santa Clara’s Nigerian left back Zaidu Sanusi has completed a move to FC Porto, signing a contract valid until 2025.
Having joined Azores’ Santa Clara last summer on a free transfer from third tier outfit Mirandela, Zaidu’s rise through the ranks in Portugal has been quite sensational, and it is capped off with a move to the Portuguese champions.
He played 29 games for Santa Clara across all competitions last season, helping his side to an impressive 9th place finish in the Portuguese Primeira Liga as he made the most of the opportunities he was afforded to become a first-team regular.
Though he has not yet represented his country at senior level, a debut appearance should not be too far away for the 23-year old, whose versatility is another major strength, able to play at both fullback or on the wing.
Zaidu may well find himself competing for a starting berth at FC Porto next season should Brazilian Alex Telles depart the club this summer.
He becomes the latest Primeira Liga player to join Porto, following in the footsteps of Carraca and Claudio Ramos, who joined from Boavista and Tondela respectively on free transfers. Rio Ave’s Mehdi Taremi should then be the next.
