Benfica dream of Edinson Cavani
With the appointment of Jorge Jesus as manager, Benfica are also hypothesising a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan striker is leaving the French champions at the end of the season with his contract coming to an end, but where he will be moving to is not yet determined.
And Benfica are now considering an audacious move for the 116-time international forward, willing to fork out substantial sums to attract Cavani, who would command no transfer fee.
Benfica are aware that the wage demands of Cavani will be astronomical and will obliterate their current wage bill structure, but are willing to make a significant financial sacrifice to secure the services of the world class talent.
Benfica will also be aware that their star striker, Carlos Vinicius, is of considerable interest, and PSG are one side that are believed to be keen on signing the Brazilian forward. Should they complete a move for the 60 million euro rated Vinicius, that could provide sufficient funding to make the dream of signing Cavani a reality.
Cavani has aleady rejected the chance to sign a short-term deal with PSG, meaning he will not be able to play for PSG in the Champions League next month, which will be hosted in Lisbon.
